Our Beliefs

While The Well does not belong to any organized denomination, we hold pretty closely to the beliefs spelled out in the Westminster Confession of Faith. We do not, however, take a dogmatic position on “dinner table” theology, such as eschatology (the study of the end times) or the free-will debate between Calvinism and Arminianism.  We are far more interested in the unquestionable core truths of the Gospel and in making disciples of Jesus Christ who are radically in love with Him.

We believe the Church is not another sub-culture, but the very presence of God’s kingdom on earth. It is not a building or a weekend activity but a people meant to be set apart and holy. We want to partner with God as He grows the kingdom through us, His bride.

As a church, we hold to the following essential, core beliefs:

The Bible

The Bible is the living inspired, inerrant and authoritative Word of God for the Christian faith.  ( John 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:15-17; Heb. 4:12; 1 Pet. 1:23-25; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

The Trinity

That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  (Matt. 28:19; John 10:30-33, 15:26; Rom. 8:9; Col. 1:15, 2:9; Heb. 1:2-3

GOD THE SON

In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return in power and glory. (The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John; Heb. 4:15, 9:26-28; 1 Pet. 2:22; Rom. 3:21-26; Acts 7:56; Col. 3:1; 1 Cor. 15; Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 5:15-17)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling every Christian is able to live a godly life. (John Acts 1:8; Rom. 8:1-17; Gal. 5:16-25)

SALVATION

That all people are lost sinners and must turn to Christ in saving faith and repentance for regeneration by the Holy Spirit. (John 3:3-8, 16-21; Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:21-26, 6:23; Eph. 2:1-10)

RESURRECTION

In the resurrection of both those who believe in Jesus and those who do not believe: those believing to eternal life with Christ and those unbelieving to eternal punishment in hell. (Matt. 25; John 6:40; 1 Cor. 15; Rev. 20:11-15)
